Got him!!!

I got the second one today.  They are such little "piggies" and go after food so energetically that they are pretty easy to trap.
Now, friend Dwain says I should have painted the tails so I can recognize them when they come back!  Well they won't come back because I, of course put little blind folds on them before I put them in the trunk of the car, then turned them around three times before I removed it and made them promise not to return before I let them go in the desert!

Big white hunter

I have been on a mission! I am hunting a varmot!  One day we found this huge hole dug in my yard. Didn't know what it was at first. Then we saw him. . .a Rock Squirrels! This guy is not like the tree squirrels we remember, they live in holes in the ground and are excellent excavation experts. Well, then another hole appeared and we got a glimpse of TWO of them.
Ok, it's war. Set a live trap and first try I got this guy.  Just a cute little pack rat. . .which I presently drove out onto desert and let him go.

He seems to like our quail block so I baited him with bird seed AND I GOT ONE. Another trip out to the desert several miles from home.  Set the trap again and in less than an hour I had the other one. BUT, not so fast.  He was so frantic and so big that he clawed his way out of the trap right before my eyes.
He broke my trap!  Well, a trip to hardware store tonight and I will be at this again!
Ah, living with nature!

Mt Lemon

We needed to get out of town and see some fall color before we missed it. Have to go up Mt Lemon to find trees with fall color here in Arizona as desert trees don't really turn. Was a beautiful day up there.  Hiked about 4 miles and then had a fun picnic lunch before we headed back.

Opening of 50th Dominoes Pizza Store in China

Big Deal for Doug!  Congratulations to everyone.  A major goal met and still growing.  They are moving on to other cities besides Beijing and Shanghai to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Tianjin, etc.

Love this picture with the confetti flying--maybe it is fireworks, I don't know, but something festive is happening!

Anyone hungry for pizza?!

Aeri's 100 day celebration

Family and friends celebrated Aeri's 100 day this evening with a dinner out and ( looks like) a wonderful cake.  I am guessing the cake is sweet bean or mochie/rice since it is Korean tradition.  Wish we could have been there to give her a squeeze, and have a piece of cake. Actually celebrated early because Doug was home.

More Balloon Pictures

The Hot Air Balloon Festival is a phtographers dream.  I must have taken at least. . .well, a lot of photos.  Just have to post a few more.

You are right on the field and they are taking off all around you. So amazing.

The character balloons are so ingenious. Supposedly there were balloons from 22 countries.

Couldn't watch balloons all the time.  Sometimes you just want to relax and read the paper or check emails, or play with playdough.

Some came down just beyond the RV park.  We climbed onto the roof of RV to watch.

Hatch chilies

Wonderful 3 days with Doug and Lia. We had so much fun. Doug is a great daddy. he took such good care of Lia, and she was such a delight.  . .so was Doug!!  They took the "red eye " back to New York and we left early the next morning for home.
Had to stop in Hatch. NM for a supply of fresh green chilies. Can taste the chili rellenos already .

Last day

We got up and had a nice breakfast (of Minny mouse pancakes ) and watched the balloons fly right over the RV park.  So fun.

Then off to the zoo

More Balloon Festival

The second morning was too windy for the balloons to fly. We did some exploring of Albuquerque and all did a fun bike ride along the Rio Grande River bike trail. Checked out Old Town. And then went to the Evening Glow. They inflate the balloons but don't take off. And as it gets dark,  the gas flames make them all look magical. Lia didn't make it to the ending fireworks but she was comfy in her stroller.

Lia is snug in that bike trailer behind grandpa

Balloon Festival

Doug and Lia arrived on time. Lia greeted us with a big hug. . .boy, did that make grandma and grandpa happy. Was a late night but we all made it up at the crack of dawn for the first mass flight. Perfect quiet, clear morning.

We bundled Lia up in a blanket in the stroller and she was snug and warm. Temps were in the low 50s until sun warmed us all up.

Had to be over 300 balloons, the most amazing sight. I couldn't stop taking pictures.  Back to RV for hearty breakfast, took Lia to a local playground for a little while, then it was time for a long nap for everyone

Albuquerque

We are here in Albuquerque for a nice long weekend. We are looking forward to the start of the Balloon Festival tomorrow morning.  Will and I arrived yesterday and got the RV all parked and set up on the festival ground.  Today we checked everything out,  went to Old Town, and got ready for Doug and Lia to join us!  They are coming in on a late flight tonight from New York. Might be a short night for them for the early morning "assention." We are so excited to have them come.

We got a little tease early  this morning.  View from our campground

Indian market in Old Town
Then we did "Lumpus" for dinner. Giant hamburger. Local delight. Even the Umpy was huge
