Play and work

There is a Greek Festival in Tucson every September sponsored by St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. We have heard about it many times and decided to go check it out. Lots of people, great Greek food, Greek music and Greek dances in costume, pretty fun. One option was a tour of the church which we found really interesting. We couldn't actually tour the building because the church burned several years ago and just now beginning to rebuild. But we did get to see the only two relics that survived the fire plus an interesting talk about what the Eastern Orthodox church is all about. Audience asked lots of questions and I learned a lot.

This morning it was back to work for Will finishing repairing the patio. He pulled all the bricks up to re lay them. Promises himself it will be done by end of day.

Kiln load

First kiln load in a long time! Have been concentrating on throwing on the wheel, making pots and "round things" and then practicing painting techniques I learned in China last spring. Mostly turned out good, colorful anyway. Couple pieces that did not make the picture went right to trash.

Sunday nap

Just a lazy, hot Sunday afternoon. Just happen to look out bedroom window into back yard and there he was! A beautiful bobcat taking a nap in the shade of our lemon tree. He was there all afternoon. An occasional twitch, rolled over once, flicked his tail a few times but was definitely comfortably sleeping. Then about 5pm he slowly stretched long and deep, groomed himself for several minutes and then sauntered to the wall, leaped up and over and was gone into the desert. What a treat.

Rejuvenated yard and RV

Finally, our back yard is looking good. Lots of work to get it in shape again this year. We don't mow grass here, that is for sure, but still takes work to maintain. Now I can sit outside with my cup of tea and not feel like I should be out there doing something!
Ah yes, another Arizona sunset!

And Will has been working on the RV doing some remodeling. Put in a new stainless steel sink to replace the awful vinyl sink. Also took my stove out. Replacing it with a new cook top range and putting cupboard space underneath. In 7 years, I don't think I ever used the oven, except to store stuff in it. My microwave is convection oven also so can use that If I ever need to bake something. So now I have three pull-out shelves under the cook top. Well, I will have, once he is finished. He is pretty handy guy, really appreciate all he does!

Plus a new quiet water pump. The old one made so much noise, we cursed it every time we used it!

Labor Day Rodeo

We spent the holiday by ourselves this year. We did a little yard work in the cool of the early morning. . .More to do. Then we drove out of town to Sonoita, south east of Tucson to the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds to the Sonoita Rodeo. Part of it was a Junior Rodeo, interesting to see young people of all ages participating plus the big guys!

The rodeo clown came up into stands and sat next to us and cracked some jokes. My 30 seconds of fame.

Working in the yard

We have been working hard to get our yard in shape after several months of neglect. Getting there but is slow. Nice summer rains meant everything grew like crazy and after 14 years there is a lot of overgrowth. We gave in and hired a local handyman to help and he made quick work of it all. He filled his truck to overflowing with branches, trimmings, overgrown cactus and dead stuff.  And he hauled it all away -- it was magic. We still have work to do but is coming.  . .slowly. It's too hot to work outside anyway.
